Bodiam Castle and Steam Train Experience 10th May 2025
Our journey began with a step back in time at Bodiam Castle, a stunning 14th-century moated fortress. Despite its ruined interior, the castle still boasts captivating features like its spiral staircase, ancient battlements, and the iconic portcullis. The guests were enchanted by the history that surrounded them, soaking in the atmosphere as they wandered through the ruins. We were blessed with perfect weather—sunshine bathing the grounds—making it the ideal setting for a relaxing picnic. And what better way to enjoy the day than with delicious butter chicken and rice courtesy of Saffrons? It was a treat for everyone!
Next, we boarded the Kent & East Sussex Railway, a renowned heritage line nestled in Tenterden, Kent. Established by Holman F. Stephens, this railway holds the distinction of being Britain’s first light passenger railway in the early 20th century. Today, it remains one of the most cherished and authentic heritage lines in the UK. As the train meandered through picturesque landscapes, guests savoured hot tea and fresh muffins, taking in the serene beauty of the surroundings.
